About

A shared dream for a soul-nourishing space

Rooted in Connection

Pura Vita was born from a shared dream between Dr. Sarah Nelson and Angela Lay, two practitioners who envisioned a place where healing feels like coming home. A sanctuary bathed in natural light, enriched with soothing scents and gentle sounds, designed to restore the mind, body, and spirit.

What began as a simple idea grew into a community of independent healers practicing side by side, united by purpose and care. Every detail of Pura Vita was created to make wellness more accessible, authentic, and collaborative.

From chiropractic care and massage therapy to skincare, reiki, yoga, sauna, and sound healing, each practice under our roof shares one intention: to nurture whole-person healing and genuine connection. Through free monthly classes and community education, we continue to remove barriers to wellness, offering knowledge and support that empower guests to care for themselves and one another.

At its heart, Pura Vita is more than a place to heal, it’s a place to belong.

Meet the Founders

Dr. Sarah M. Nelson, DC

Dr. Nelson earned her Bachelor of Science in Environmental Biology from Eastern Illinois University and her Doctorate of Chiropractic from Logan College of Chiropractic near St. Louis, Missouri, in 2000. By improving function through form, she uses traditional chiropractic methods with hands-on manipulations to restore alignment and help her patients live more comfortable and productive lives.

Her mission has always been to honor the Latin root of “Doctor,” meaning “teacher.” Sarah finds joy in helping patients understand true healthcare and empowering them to take part in their own healing. Whether providing immediate relief after injury or continuing wellness care for long-time patients who feel like family, she leads with compassion and curiosity.
Sarah is the proud mother of four very active (and now fully grown!) sons. She finds balance in teaching fitness classes, spending time outdoors, and traveling to collegiate and NFL games for her sons.

Angela Lay, LMT, LE, CNC

Angela began her healing journey in massage therapy before expanding into aesthetics and holistic nutrition. After years in California’s spa and culinary scene, she became a Certified Natural Foods Chef, focusing on how food can nourish and heal from within.
Her path has always been guided by curiosity and care. Today, she blends her expertise in bodywork, skincare, and nutrition to provide deeply holistic care. Angela lives in McFarland with her family, where she enjoys hiking, reading, quality time with friends and family, and sharing the beauty of everyday wellness.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is The Loft accessible?

The Loft is located on our second floor. If accessibility is a concern, please contact us before booking, and we’ll help you find the best fit for your needs.

How do I book a class or service?

Classes can be booked through our “Book a Class” page. Individual services are booked directly through each practitioner’s page.

Can I drop in for a class or visit?

Some services, such as chiropractic care, sauna sessions, and select classes or workshops, may offer walk-in availability. For all other services, including massage, functional medicine, and skincare, we kindly ask that you schedule an appointment in advance. You can view current class offerings and details on our calendar.

How can I host a class or workshop?

We love collaborating with practitioners and teachers who share our passion for wellness and community. To inquire about hosting your own class or workshop in The Loft, please visit our Loft page and complete the inquiry form. Our team will connect with you about availability, details, and rates.

Do you take insurance?

Dr. Nelson is a provider for Medicare and for Worker’s Compensation and Auto Claims. All other practitioners at Pura Vita operate independently and do not accept third-party insurance payments.

I’ve never done yoga, Pilates, or aerial before. Will I feel out of place?

Absolutely not. Every body and every experience level is welcome here. Our instructors create an inclusive, encouraging space for all, and they’ll be happy to offer modifications and guidance to support your comfort. We simply recommend arriving a few minutes early to introduce yourself to the instructor.

What is a sound bath?

A sound bath is a meditative experience that uses instruments such as crystal bowls, gongs, and chimes to create soothing vibrations throughout the body. These resonant sounds help calm the nervous system, release tension, and promote deep relaxation and emotional balance.

Is it required to remove my shoes on entry?

We invite guests to remove their shoes as a way of keeping our space clean and energetically grounded. Think of it as a small ritual, leaving the outside world (and your worries) at the door. Disposable shoe covers and fresh socks are available if you prefer to keep your feet covered.

How do I pay for classes?

Each instructor at Pura Vita operates independently and manages their own registration and payment methods. Some offer class packs or punch cards for discounted rates. Please refer to each class description for specific details.
